Great day, amazing human. Welcome to the Empowered in my skin podcast, where our mission is to help 1 billion people in this world think in more empowering ways.
Empowered humans empower humans. So you are in the right spot to become a lead domino for empowerment today. My name is Inkechi.
I'm not only your host, but I am a vibrant optimist to bring you empowering content with each episode, we will be bringing you content, alternating between longer episodes with feature guests and shorter episodes called Empowering Bites, where I'll be joined by my co host, Gabby Mamone. So if you're ready, let the show begin. Great day, amazing humans. Yes. Welcome to another episode of empowering bites.
It happens to be the next episode, and I'm here with my glorious, grateful, generous co host, Gab. Oh, I could have said grateful. No. Generous. Graduate. Great. Generous. Are you doing alliteration, Gabriela? Yeah. Gabriella Mamone. Yeah. The G. The G's.
I'm here with my G. I'm here with my ghdev. My tea. I love it.
Gabby Mamone:Thank you for the warm welcome I receive every time.
Nkechi:No problem.
Gabby Mamone:And you make me feel good, self aware. And what a great, great intro that is, because we're going to be talking about self talk.
So I actually want to interview Inkechi on this episode, and the reason why is because I've known you for many, many years, and one thing that really resonates firm with conviction is your positive self talk. You know, I've seen you having bad days, and yet you still have your positive self talk.
You're very self aware of your emotions, and you know how to regulate your emotions. And so. And that's very vital. Right. Vital for mental health and well being. So I want to talk about that.
I know that September is self talk month for us, and I want to basically ask you why. Why is it important to you that.
Nkechi:We recognize that that's also my birthday month? Yes, that's past. That's passed by now, but, yeah, no. Oh, my gosh. Well, one, I was on a mission this year. I've been doing the affirmation game.
I'm a total affirmation junkie, certified nerd in this space. Love it. I do affirmations, and I am statements every single day.
And it's grown to this place where not only do I affirm myself, but I declare my day the day I'm going to have. And typically, I'm gonna say, like, 90. High percentage, 95% of the time. I have a great day, you know, and I'm having fun today.
And I bring joy to others, and I bring light with me wherever I go, and a positive influence on the world. And all is actually truly well, you know? And when you can look, when you just start to feel that every.
Like, that's how I feel every single day when I walk out of the house.
And so I tell my day, the kind of day I'm gonna have, and I will say, like, after that, it's really left to all the experiences and the interactions, which I can't. I can't typically predict or. But I can. I definitely know how I show up to them.
But beside that, sometimes, like, it's also hard to pull some of that out of my own brain, you know?
So I think the other aspect that I can share is, like, if you can't get the affirmations for yourself, then it's also about, you know, what do you listen to the books that you read, the podcasts that you. You know, you know, what are some of the other material that you're taking in through the day?
Like, do you really actually look at what the algorithms on the Internet and your social media are sending you? Because in large part, it's. You're. You've trained the algorithm from what you listen to talk about, you know? So if.
If it's positive news, positive information, then good chance that you are sort of living in that life of optimism and positivity and light.
And so some of the things I love also is quotes, because sometimes it's like, sometimes my personal words may not be enough for myself, but even for just the next part of, you know. And as a speaker, I love quotes.
So I think one aspect I haven't brought into this September, and maybe you have some, too, or not even just quotes, but things that you have listened to, Gabby, that resonates, you've shared with others that have lit people up. But, like, some things that I want to share with listeners, if you could just remember, memorize these ones, right? Like, our deepest fear.
Talk about that one all the time. Like, that's a quote that I think, especially young girls, but everyone should have.
And if you can't remember the whole one, it's, you know, there's some parts of it, right? Like, there's nothing enlightened about shrinking so others don't feel insecure around you. You know, you are meant to shine. You're born to make.
You were born to make manifest the glory of God that's within you. And when you allow your light to shine, you unconsciously give permission to others to do the same.
Like, that's a, that one to me is like this domino effect like that, just having some of those. The other one I love is by Theodore Roosevelt. It's called the man in the arena. I think that that's kind of how it's been.
And that one talks about, because we always talk about, oh, I have critics and all this.
And I think even Brenni Brown has probably made that quote really famous as she talks about vulnerability because she says, that's really, like, that's what vulnerability is all about. It's not the critic who counts. It's not the man who points out how the strong mandeh or how the doer deeds could have done them better.
The credit actually belongs to the man who's in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood and who strives violently, who, who comes up short again and again because there is no effort without error and shortcoming. Like that.
That statement right there is a permission slip to fail to go hard enough that you stand the chance that you might fail at something, you know? But, and then it goes on to say, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for worthy cause.
I think, like, for me, my cause is really helping people feel truly empowered in their skin and to think in ways that are empowering. Right. And I'm going after a billion people in this world.
But who at the best knows that in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and at the worst, if they fail, at least failed while daring greatly, you know, so that your place is never with those who never tried. Who, those timid people. Right. So anyway, that's another powerful quote to me that helped me really realize. Yeah, man.
Like, we, our last episode was about find the gap. Like, that's why you got to find the gap.
Gabby Mamone:Yeah.
One thing I know about you, and let's even talk about social media, one thing that you do very well is you don't, when you post, try to impress people, you're trying to impact people. There's a difference.
Nkechi:Right.
Gabby Mamone:You're not impressing, you're impacting. And the reason why that's so important is because you are sharing your quotes, you are sharing your love, you are sharing the motivation.
Because words have power. They impact us. I commend you for that.
Nkechi:And you talked about, you often talk about words have power. And I think you also are very intentional about how you talk to people and how you lift people up and how you give people their flowers.
And I love that about you as well, thank you.
Gabby Mamone:One thing I share with my kids, I share it often, and sometimes even when I'm dropping them off at school in the morning, is I say it's always better to be the person that smiled than the person that didn't smile. And because sometimes we really just have a bad day.
And that quote is probably from someone, so forgive me for not knowing exactly who owns that quote, but it is so important because we make an impact with every step we take, every word we say. We leave people with the impression that we leave upon them. Let it be an impression of increase. Let it be a smile.
Let it be positive experience, because that, in turn, will have that ripple effect. It's so important.
Nkechi:Hi. I. Anyway, like, this is what I'm saying. It's like, why. Why would we. Why do we spend so much.
Why would we want to spend time intentionally not feeling great about life and ourselves, you know, when we have, like. Like I said, if you cannot pull it for yourself, don't worry. There is somebody out there that has pulled it.
And you just, like, these days, especially with, like, chat GPT, with the empowered of my skin podcast, but, like, there's, like, I haven't even gone into, like, Ed Milet. Um. What's in the school of greatness? What's his name? Um. Um. Oh, my gosh. Why is his name the guy from the school of greatness? Louis Hoes? Yeah.
Gabby Mamone:Okay.
Nkechi:You know, then you have, like, mel Robbins, you have even Oprah. Like, there's so, so many. There's such a doctor, Eric Thomas. We talked about him last week. Like, there's so much doctor Joe Dispenza. Right?
Like, I love listening to that guy because so pro.
Like, he just really, you know, he talks about, like, there was something that he said in a podcast I listened to recently that really resonated with me because I'm like, oh, my God, I'm so stealing that. But he said, like, in a moment, he'll ask himself, what would the masters do? Because sometimes it's not even like. Like, when you start to.
Like, especially if you started to listen to people, like, who's that one person that you could say that, you know, without a doubt that if they were facing the situation, they'd find the silver lining. They would be optimistic about it. Like, even if you walk so true. So then you just pause and for a moment, you just like, what would Gabby do?
How would Gabby bring kindness into the situation while she would smile, you know, or she would share a compliment, you know, like, you know, there's gotta, like, whatever. Whoever that is, it could be your kid. It could be. But somebody that you know that is endlessly in the pursuit of optimism and positivity.
Gabby Mamone:Yes.
Nkechi:In those moments when you can't pull it from yourself, just pause, think about them, and say, what would they do? So his whole thing that got me to that was he said, what would the masters do? And by now, I know who he's talking about.
Like, you think about people like Michael singer. Like, you know, there's some masters out there. Often I think about, what would td Jake say? Like, that guy's an orator.
Like, how would he frame this up? What would the Bible say? Like, that's why I put bible verses inside of me. I should have even talked about that.
Like, every single day I do, I use purpose driven life. So, Pastor Rick Warren wrote a book, and there are 42 chapters, and he encourages the readers. Oh, I have another one to share.
, so:3100 plus days. Right. Of the scripture memorization. And I I'm holding myself accountable to it. I go into say it every single morning.
language is in me. Like Luke: Luke: Gabby Mamone:Yeah, yeah.
Nkechi:I just lost it on the spot, but, yeah, but it's like that, you know, Romans 828, and we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who've been called according to his purpose. Right. So there's like. Yeah, 42 of these scriptures that I can pull from.
And then the most recent one that I love, and we'll use this to close off the episode, is, I got this one from my husband, and he has read the book, I want to say, think and grow rich by Napoleon. Napoleon Hill. Yeah. It is a. Yeah. And in it, he has the self confidence formula.
Gabby Mamone:Okay.
Nkechi: ve to rem. Look at that. Luke:Unless you're faithful over small matters, you can't be faithful over big ones. That's what it is. Something like that, anyway. But. But. Okay, so let me try.
So, number one, I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my desired purpose in life. Therefore, I will demand of myself persistent and continuous action towards its attainment. And I, here and now, promise to render such action.
Number two, I know that the dominating thoughts in my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in physical activity and gradually transform themselves into physical reality.
Therefore, I will concentrate my thoughts for 30 minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person.
Number three, I know that through the principle of auto suggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my thoughts will seek expression through attaining the object back of it. Therefore, I will. I will devote ten minutes. Ten minutes to demanding of myself the development of self confidence.
And number four, I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief aim in life. And I'll never stop trying until I developed sufficient self confidence towards attainment.
And number five, I know that no wealth or position can long endure unless built upon truth and justice. Therefore, I will engage in no transaction that doesn't benefit all whom it affects.
I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me because I willingly serve others. I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousies, selfishness and cynicism. By demanding?
No. By developing love for all humanity. Because I know a negative attitude towards others cannot bring me success.
I will cause others to believe in me because I believe in others and in myself. Yes.
Gabby Mamone:Self confidence formula. Well done. Well done. I have that if anyone's interested, like you can even just hop on Google. I have the printout. Yeah, it's amazing.
Nkechi:So print it out or memorize it.
Gabby Mamone:That is so impressive. Very impressive.
Nkechi:Yeah, I love it. So he's learning it, too. It's on the back of our door. You stayed on the way out. And I'm very fortunate because I did math and I also played piano.
And so I believe both of those are toted. You study the brain, aren't they toted for helping with memory? Yeah, with memory. So, yeah.
Gabby Mamone:Yeah.
Nkechi:Anyway, Gabby, thank you for indulging me on one of my favorite topics in the world, which is how do we talk better to ourselves?
Gabby Mamone:Yeah, I love it. Self talk. Really great episode. Thank you for sharing all your quotes and tidbits and golden nuggets. Love it.
Nkechi:And I love you, and we love everyone that's listening or watching. Us and Sally, this is where we have to say I'm ink and I'm.
Gabby Mamone:Gabby with one b.
Nkechi:And we're out. Buh buh buh bye. There you have it. I trust you are feeling more empowered in your skin. As the late doctor Maya Angelou said, when you get, you give.
When you learn, you teach.
